The Yellowknife Ice Volleyball Club hosted its 2026 team tryouts on September 27–28, and what an incredible weekend it was! More than 50 athletes registered, filling the gym with energy, focus, and an outstanding display of volleyball skill.

Day one began with a group photo alongside our premier sponsors, Darcy and Achla Southam, owners of Canadian Tire Yellowknife. Their continued support plays a huge role in helping our athletes grow and develop through sport. From there, players were placed into groups and rotated through a series of drills, testing stations, and game play. The level of talent was impressive, and the enthusiasm on the court was contagious.

After day one, coaches made the first round of selections, narrowing the group to 30 athletes for day two. The next day featured more skill evaluation and exciting game play, with players showing determination, teamwork, and a ton of energy and excitement!

This year’s tryouts brought a great mix of players eligible for both 18U and 16U competition. The blend of experience and emerging talent made for exciting volleyball and tough decisions for the coaching staff. Selecting final rosters was not easy; every athlete worked hard and gave their best effort. Saying yes to one player inevitably meant saying no to another. Those choices are difficult and never taken lightly.

The Yellowknife Ice Volleyball Club is proud of every player who participated. The skill, attitude, and sportsmanship shown throughout the weekend reflect the strength of our volleyball community. With teams now selected, we’re ready for another season of learning, growth and competition.
