coaching principles

Yellowknife Ice Volleyball coaching requirements are in place to ensure that all coaches participating in club activities have the knowledge and training necessary to provide every athlete with a safe, inclusive and responsible sport experience.

Guiding Principles:

All athletes have the right to a NCCP Certified coach.

All coaches have the responsibility to:
  • Have the required training to provide an environment that is physically, mentally, emotionally and socially safe for all athletes and participants.
  • Have the required training to be able to provide a responsible learning environment that incorporates Volleyball Canada’s teaching methodologies, technical guidelines and long-term athlete development principles.
  • Ensure that all training is current and updated as required, to be able to provide a safe and responsible sport experience for all.

Coach Requirements

All Yellowknife Ice Volleyball Club coaches require the minimum, just to be at the gym training with our athletes:

  • Annual background screening: Criminal Records Check / Screening Disclosure
    Volleyball NT Screening Policy
  • Coaching Association of Canada (CAC) Safe Sport Training
  • Volleyball NT & Volleyball Canada Annual Membership

Additional minimum requirements needed to travel to Alberta Premier competitions, Alberta Provincial Championships and the Volleyball Canada Youth Nationals....

  • Coaching Association of Canada (CAC) Making Head Way in Sport
  • Coaching Association of Canada (CAC) Making Ethical Decisions
  • Volleyball Canada Foundations of Volleyball
  • NCCP Level II Advanced Development Coach certification needed (minimum) for Head Coaches

Ice Volleyball welcomes anyone who is interested in helping coach our teams.
experience is preferred but not necessary!
Most training is done online and at your own pace. Any fees can be covered by Volleyball NT.

If you volunteer to be a head coach, your child's club fees are waived!
